Zeal - anyone using it?

I have had several people approach me about using Zeal for both wellness and weight loss. I am trying it out for a few days but to buy a month supply is expensive. Everyone who tells me about it also sells it. Looking for input from those who use it but aren't dealers.



How long have you used it? Can you tell a difference in the way you feel? Do you do the whole plan or just the wellness drinks?

KeepItReel Sharkathon 2014 Report

The much anticipated Sharkathon 2014 was days away. I decided to take some time off of work to scout the beach and try to get some fresh bait and test out the new rack me and a buddy built! Got down to the beach early Tuesday morning and was greeted with rain and rough seas.











I would stop every now and then as I saw skip jack hammering bait up close. The weed was giving me trouble slinging lures so I made an executive decision to bust out the cast net and help the anchovies out by getting some of the skippies off their back.







Driving wasn't bad, just a little bumpy. Took longer than expected but I was able to get down to the jettys at low tide using only 2wd. With what seemed like a big camp already set up at the jettys I introduced myself to the camp and state my business. "Just here for bait!" They had been there since last Friday and were there for the tournament a week in advance!





I get to BS'n with them for a little while then start the hunt for bait.













Not much action at the jetty so I go back to chunking cut skip jack out into the surf. Landed this beautiful spotless red fish almost immediately.













The day went on bringing scattered thunderstorms and rain. Sat in the truck and napped most of the afternoon. As the sun was setting i decide to get a bait out into the channel as i did not want battle the raging surf. That bait would go untouched as I kick back and drink with the guys at the jetty.

I need three people to come on overnight tuna trip to the floater rigs. We will leave out of matagorda saterday at 10am and return Sunday after noon on a 32foot regulator with twin yamaha 4 strokes. We are equipped with seatow, eperb, and spot for safety. I'm trying to train two new deckhands so just a fun trip. 400$ each person for fuel and bait any extra expenses will be covered by me.

CZ Over and Under Shotguns

Looking hard at a couple in 12 gauge. I fondled a Redhead Deluxe this weekend and went back to the store for a second feel and almost got it. There seems to be some negativity in the shotgun world concerning CZ/Huglu as to whether or not they are a waste of money, just buy a Browning etc. One reason I walked was I tried a 28 gauge and we could not break it open. The kid took it back to the gun smith and he had to work on it. Another one had bright red rust on the barrel and it got stuck also. He put it across his knee and got it open and dismantled it there. It had a bunch of rust and debris in the receiver but after turning it over he reassembled it and it worked fine. The twelve I was after was smooth as butter and all looked oiled. Maybe they just unpacked them I don't know. Some negative comments I have read is about rust and the method used to solder the barrels on these guns. Anybody had one? Love it or leave it?

hit trinity today for 6 keeper trout (5 barely(s) and an 18") and a bunch o dinks.no real bird action except pelicans and liar birds working showering glass minnows. where the minnows were, the trout were there. conditions nice. nne under 10kts. water decent. saw Plaag out there solo today. scouting I guess. fun day except wreck at thompsons rd & I-10 that delayed me 25min and my dumb a** dropping the boat in water w/o plugs (recovered w/o too much grief). just when u think yer mr. seasoned pro, u get reminded of the human condition

Game caller

So I started shopping for a game call. Something for predators, hogs, and deer. Looked around on amazon, at academy, bass pro. Couldn't find one I liked for the price. Looked on the ap store on my iPhone and found some game calling aps. Downloaded then, they sounded pretty good through phone and even better through the stereo. Got to searching for a Bluetooth speaker. Braven makes a Bluetooth, shockproof, waterproof speaker for about $150. Which is nearly half the price as a good game call. Plus it can be used at the pool, or anywhere else you might need some tunes. I wound up ordering the JBL charge, because I've had good luck with JBL products instead of the Braven and it sounds way better than my dads Primos Alpha Dog. And it's multi purpose. So if you're in the market for a game call I'd recommend shopping around for a nice Bluetooth speaker and you can use your phone as the remote. The JBL has a lithium battery rated to play continuos for 12 hours. That should get you through a few hunts on a single charge.

Fiancee called off engagement, and kicked me out of the house

Long story short, we got in a big arguement on Saturday evening, and she told me "that was it" and the engagment was off. She then proceeded to tell me I had to leave the house (we have both been living in this rent house for over a year together). Her and her 2 kids and me and my kid. She told me I better leave right then and there (2AM in in the morning) and I told her NO. I wasnt going anywhere and that I lived there just as much as she did. She said my name was not on the lease. She called the cops on me and they said "it would be better if I left" but that I didnt have to because that was my home as well...he looked at my DL and it had our address on the home. So me and my son left and stayed in a local hotel. I just gave her $1200 Saturday morning for the month of October bills...(they are not due until 10/1 and 10/15) but I paid her for them early because I just got paid and I usually pay for the whole months bills at one time..I dont have to do that, I just do because it helps her out financially. Well I asked her to give me my $1200 back, and she said NO. I asked her for my ring back and she said NO.

So this girl Kicks me and my son out on the street @ 2AM in the morning and leaves us with nowhere to go. She calls the cops on my so I can leave, she keeps my $1200 (that I paid in advance for October bills), and she changed the locks on the doors. I told her she had to give me 30 days to find a new place for my and my son...she said NO and kicked me and my son out on the street...Now Im left scrambling trying to find a place for me and my son to live and she kept my $1200 that I could use to find a new place. What a B**ch!!!

What's your one live bait and lure that's you think is a must have?

I have had the pontoon boat on the Neches river weekly and now it's ready to be my fishing machine. I boat from the saltwater barrier to the bridge. In the past I just fished saltwater with dead shrimp or mud minnows

I do know catfish bait works by the saltwater barrier in the current.

What's the best lure to use in this area and best live bait.

Galveston vs Surfside jetties

Which jetties are more productive? Looking for something to do while the weather is bad offshore.



I used to fish the Galveston jetties and closer when I was younger on party boats. Only things happening were bull reds, lots of hard heads and a few sharks. Get lucky and get a sheepshead now and then. Lots of boats on the outside of the jetties though but never noticed how their fishing was.

Lime Shrimp/Crabmeat tacos

Been playing with this for a while. Peel/devein shrimp and season shrimp with what you like. I usually use a little old bay or SYM. Using a cast iron skillet with veg/canola oil (NOT OLIVE) add shrimp. Once 1/2 cooked (1-2 min) add minced jalapeno, garlic, scallions. Let go another 30-60 seconds. Add juice form 4-5 limes. Add 1/2 C. of tequlia and burn off. Add about 1/2 -3/4 stick of butter and let melt. Fold in crabmeat.



Add to some corn tortillas with a little cilantro/Pico and you're golden. It is truly easy, but amazing.

Trucking non-ethanol gasoline further into Texas, say to Conroe, would tend to increase the price. So, I’m wondering … just how much would you be willing to pay for a gallon of non-ethanol gasoline?

We came in Friday and it's been off and on since...the tide is Way up and rockport beach ramp was flooded and the lighthouse ramp had 5-7 footers crashing pretty hard so I didn't want my first trip to be a major problem so we decided to not take the boys out...so I need 2cool help!!!



Where should I go tomorrow? I don't mind driving to port a or aransas or anywhere nearby...

What do you take for your Allergies???

About three years ago I went from never having an allergy problem to taking 3 different types of allergy medicine a day. I take Allegra D 24hr, Singulair and Nasacort Nasal spray every day. If I miss 1 day on any of the three I end up with a sinus infection or just plain miserable for multiple days. I have to do this year round, not just seasonal.

Do any of you ave this same problem? Have any of you found a way around all the medication? It drives me nuts to spend almost $150 a month on this stuff.

Reds Down Dularge

Gary McNeil with Prime Controls joined us today, with a crew of two boats running. With the high winds, we knew we had to stick to the reds. We hit the deep holes in Rice Bayou and Buck skin bayou, dropping cracked crabs on the bottom Carolina rigged. We had a short window with the tide but timed them just right. The guys had a blast reeling in the reds and a few "Big Nasty" drum line pullers!!! Despite the 25-30 mph winds the guys put a good box of fish together and had a great time. We also caught a few reds on bait shrimp under a cork. Thanks guys for a great day.

Wake or no Wake going thru the cut

The cut going into east Matagorda from the harbor usually has a few boats anchored either in the cut or just outside it. I slow down as to not disturb the gentlemen's fishing area, which seems like the polite thing to do.



Ive been there myself anchored and throwing line and had a few boats fly thru it going at least 20 or 25. My initial thought was "dude, slow down", but then someone told me its better to be ON PLANE as the wake you throw is smaller. Some guys have told me the opposite is better as you wont disturb the waters as much.



So the reason for this post is to get the 2cooler's opinion on this subject. I even heard a well known angler say on his am morning fishing show that its better to be on plane, due to a smaller wake, when passing thru a cut with anchored boats around.



Which is better, in your opinion?

I will be staying at Louis boat camp and rv park this weekend. I plan on fishing that area (jones bay) etc. but I have never fished Hanna's and would like to try it out. I've actually never fished east bay at all. Where would I be best off launching to get over to hannas? Is it dangerous getting across the bay? I will be in the boat in my avatar. An 18ft mako flats boat.



I'm also wanting to try the causeway. Is it safe to head south out of jones to get to the causeway? Or would I be better off pulling the boat out and trailering to fat boys?

I have just acquired a 2 year old lab and he is already trained with basic commands. He is very smart and extremely active(in a good way!) All he wants to do in life is retrieve and I feel like if I don't send him I would be wasting him. I have done a bunch of research on schools in Texas and I found one near Katy called South Texas Gun Dogs. They seem to have a very good reputation and seem to be priced reasonably. New Toy

My StarLapse came in today. Its a sweet piece of kit. Hoping the clouds clear out so I can try it out later tonight. Has sideral solar and 16 other rates from 3.5 deg/hr up to 240 deg/hr for timelapse panning. Handles more than one camera up to 30lbs and he is very conservative on his ratings. The tripod is the weak link I'm sure. Its only temporary I'm going to buy a geared head for the Induro. Much easier to get polar alignment with a geared head. With the BackyardEOS software I'm running you don't have to get perfect polar alignment with the scope. It will do drift align runs and tell you which way its off. Although the polar scope thats available is very nice its also 200 bucks :) I had one in my GM-8 mount its very accurate. Finally getting back to some astrophotography after having to sell all my stuff 15 years ago. I am going to have the t4i modified for astro use maybe put a cold finger in it as well. That is quite a hack so I'm not sure I want to get that involved. The astro conversion you can get done at several places.

Nearly got skunked on Livingston 9/23

Launched from the state park at dawn, headed straight to the Island. This is my first time on Livingston since my Dad used to troll for white bass many years ago. I was throwing my cast net for shad when a school of birds started working nearby, followed by the Mighty Red Fin. I had made the mistake of not rigging up my poles ahead of time, so lost many precious moments digging out my tackle and getting tied up. It's really hard to work a school of birds without a trolling motor without feeling like a big ol' potlicker!!! Shadslinger was using his electric to work the school, but I was at the mercy of the wind unless I wanted to charge in there and scatter them with my Yamaha 150.



I ended up with one fat striper, then spent the rest of the day trolling spoons for whites around the island and the old bridge north of there and drifting live/ fresh shad for blues west of the dam and around the island. I went home with neither blues nor whites. I did score a few Acrobat slabs from the Shadslinger; he was kind enough to make trip to the state park while I was catching a siesta to get out the sun in the early afternoon.



So it looks like I'm gonna have to invest in some fishing lessons from the Shadslinger soon if I'm to continue fishing this big body of water.

Okay so I'm cleaning my storage out now that the boat is in SSM for at least a year.

I've got a medium chest freezer I've kept there and used as a bait freezer for the last few years. It frost up pretty hard but keeps bait frozen solid.

Knick with a rusty hook.

This may sound like a stupid question but I figured I'd ask be for a jumped and went to the dr. This Sunday I was fishing and somehow knicked myself with a rusty treble hook on my corky. I didn't think anything of it until yesterday the small cut looks pretty irritated. I've poured alcohol and peroxide and last night soaked it in hot saltwater. This AM it's raised a bit on the smaller scrape.



What do y'all think ?

How do gun shops stay in business?

I've been looking for a Savage .17 and scope package and have emailed several dealers to get a price and lead time on ordering one. It's been over a week and not a one of them has bothered to respond. If I ran my business like that, I'd be out of business.

12 GA. Marine Primary Wire Needed

Have to make up a new wire from my starter solenoid to the battery terminal on my coil.



Does anyone know where I could get about 6-10 ft. of 12 ga. marine grade primary wire in purple/violet (for ignition) in North / NW Houston or Conroe? I haven't been able to find anyplace listed in Houston area. I need it by Thursday, so I don't have time to order any online. I see automotive wire everywhere, but I figure that only marine places would carry it and the ones I've been around lately don't have much inventory in wire. If you have seen anyplace with wire packages (marine) please let me know.

I along with my 14yr old nephew and college friend booked a hunt with George collier of lone star outfitters of Anahuac Tx. I talked to George on Friday he said meet at the y. In the road were it splits at smith point and the refuge at 4:45a.m Sunday mourn. We'll we got up Sunday drove2hours arrived about 30 mins early we thought every thing was legit , we even had our hazards on . We'll at 5:15 our started to wonder so I called George no answer text him no reply called him again no answer till this day I have not heard a word from this nice guy to put nicely with out using any bad words. So if he'll treat me like this he will treat any of y'all like this. Just a warning. Bad business for someone who said "he just does it for profit."

Monday's Surf Action

checked the surf cams around 7:30 this AM and it looked better than I expected....so I knocked out a couple of meetings and to do's then headed down south!



Hit the surf around noon and immediately started crossing some eyes!



The smacks were putting a hurting on the mullet pods.....literally knocking them out of the water. I saw a few get slapped nearly 10' out of the schools. Made sure I rigged up with a wire leader and a 3/8oz silver kastmaster and it was on!



Strung 2 smacks & 2 trout in 30mins @ my 1st stop (see pics).....took a break while a thunderstorm rolled thru....then jumped back in at another spot and ended the afternoon stringing up another smack and 3 more specks.



caught a load of dinks, a couple of rat reds (which surprised me) and a couple of 20"+ skippys.....I lost one big smack that slammed my spoon when it was about 5' from me.....she started smoking the drag and I said "oh yeah" a good one!



was getting ready to settle into a great fight and the %&#* hook pulled out!



oh well that's why they call it fishing not catching! Otherwise it was a great way to spend a Monday afternoon!

Spare boat key

I took my plain Jane boat key to the local locksmith for a duplicate. The $25 price plus 6 weeks wait freaked me out. ACE and other hardware stores say they cannot make this key even though it looks much like other keys.

single hooks on 51s and 52s

I like throwing 51s/52s and did a few times last year but there are just too many hooks.



Wonder if the in New line single hooks would work on 51 and 52's and those three treble hooks that give me 7 reasons keep me from fishing them a lot because of the danger of too many hooks and the mess and time lost in a net that they cause and I am not even thinking of the time of two wading that you get caught up with a big fish.



I wonder what the three trebles weigh as compared to 3 in line hooks? It will effect the bait sinking or acting more like a catch 2k afaict.

How is overnighting (sleeping) on a cat vs monohull?

Would like to hear from some folks who have had experiences on both. Specifically which rolls side to side less when drifting. I've searched the forums for an answer but can't find any comparisons. I can get no sleep on my monohull, so I'm useless the second day, but I heard cats roll less. I know it's not a fishin question but it is of some importance to me so any input would be appreciated.

What's a good flip cast spinning reel??

Hello 2coolers! I am Looking to buy a good spinning reel and could use some help. I was looking at the penn spinfisher V 6500. Any good reviews about them? What about the shimanos?? I want something that is smoothe casting, holds at least 250 yards of 50lb braid, can hold up to big TFT, ling, etc..

What should I get. Keep in mind I don't want to spend over 200 for the reel. Thanks for your input!

Boat Maintance Tip

In TSWF Chris Mapp talks about the new yearly maintenance at their shop of removing the steering arm from the tilt tube to clean dried grease the Tube out to keep the steering from becoming stuck.



Anyone had problems with their steering freezing up?

Been raining almost constantly since daylight between Rockport and Aransas Pass. The low spot in my front year is filling up for the first time in months. Looks like more to come on the radar.

Whales out of SPI

I talked to my wife last night and yesterday she helped guide a Pelagic birding trip out of SPI. Even though the main goal is to see pelagic birds they also are very much interested in marine mammals, whale sharks ,tuna and anything else they can find at the edge of the continental shelf.

They were very lucky and about 50 miles out in about 2500 feet of water they found a pod of Melon-headed whales that numbered about 250 individuals. They completely surrounded the boat and put on a good show for them.These are the first Melon-headed whales they have seen in the many years they have been taking these trips. They are a small dolphin sized whale with a blunt nose.

Then they found the big boys, 14 Sperm whales. They have seen them before but it is always a special occasion for them and to see this many is not common at all on their trips.

They had some good birds too but the whales were the high point of the trip.

I'll post a link to some photos as soon as they posted on the Texas Pelagics website.

They have around 3 trips a year and I normally try to make one of them but this year I did not go. Next year I will try to make one.

after shooting hours?

If I shoot a deer in the late evening and I track it and find it wounded but it is 10 minutes past legal shooting time.



Obviously the ethical thing to do is to finish the animal off but is that legal if it is after shooting hours??



The last thing I want to do is let an animal suffer but I also dont want to lose my truck, guns, hunting privileges etc

Somerville 9/20

Today I had Donnie, from Lyons, fish with son in law Allen, from College Station. Donnie got the gift certificate last Christmas, then he had to have back surgery, thus putting the fish trip on hold for a while. We finally got the trip done today.



Lake is real close to being full pool now.



Winds were supposed to be up to 7 mph for the morning, except it was about 10-12 mph when we got there. First stop produced a lot of little fish, maybe a keeper. We headed on down the lake to the next spot. There we found fish waiting on us. They managed to put #50 in the cooler by 11:30 am, and we headed to the ramp.



All fish caught under corks, in 3-7 foot water, on CJ's Shad punch bait.

Opening day was another success at the farm. As far as we could look from left to right it was solid birds. From around 6:15 to 7:00 it was solid caos guns smoking and birds dropping.

Grandma and The Switch

I have been hearing this a lot lately since the Adrian Peterson news broke and I have been hearing the identical story for as long as I can remember. It's always the same:



As a kid when I did a punishable deed grandma ( not pa, not ma, not grandpa, always grandma) would make me go cut a switch with warning that if was too small she herself would go cut a bigger one.



It's a cute story that I think has been repeated so often some guys really believe it happened to them. A country legend.
