Fun times in the hood'

As I was messing around in my garage tonight, I could hear a commotion across the street, getting louder quickly. I shined my flashlight across the road to see a group of about 5 or 6 guys in a yard, and looked sorta like they were wrestling. I thought for a moment it was teenage kids playing football in the dark. Then I saw the fists swinging...

It was roughly 5 on 1, and they were giving the guy a pretty good beat down. I wasn't thinking very clearly, else I'd have probably had my wife stand back in the shadows with a gun. I ran across the street with my light, shouting at the group. They scattered, and left the 1 guy standing there with a bloodied head. The guy started looking at me, and shouting "help me!". The other hoodrats jumped into a waiting car and took off. The guy who had been beaten up wasn't in terrible shape. Both eyes dotted, bloody ears, cut on the side of his face and head, but otherwise still standing and not too busted up. I shined the light in his face and asked him who he was, and what he was doing there. He told me he'd come to visit a friend, and got jumped.

Anyhow, I called the cops at the request of the bloodied guy. Shortly after, he started walking towards the street, then took off in a sprint and disappeared. At about the same time, the owner of the house where the fight was taking place came out to see what it was all about. She told me that as the guy was running off, he said something about being on probation. I assume he was wanted, and didn't want to get hauled off by the cops.

After I settled down and processed it all, I'm pretty sure the guy who got beat up was buying drugs from the house down the street from me, and somebody set him up. Just a guess. We've got some real "winners" about 3 or 4 houses down from me. The cops told me they've been watching, and waiting. The cops know the house is a dope house.

Fun times in the hood! Cops never did find anyone. Maybe next time...
