I'm contemplating repowering my 18ft 2008 G3 DLX. The boat has a dry weight of 880lbs with a Yamaha 50TLR 2-stroke. It was bought by my brother as a package boat show Special. Reason for the 50.
The boat gets up on plane pretty smoothly but I'm guessing (no speedometer) that the top speed is between 25-30 mph. My question. Would it be advantageous to power up by purchasing a Yamaha 4-stroke 70?
G3 claims that the 70 hp Yamaha on my hull would top out at 33-34 mph, and the 90hp 4-stroke at 38mph. I dont know enough about this type of boat to be sure about G3s claims. If I do purchase a new motor, it will probably have to be the 70. The 90 is actually bit out of my price range.
Any suggestions?
I would sell the 50 2-stroke which has less than 30hrs.
