I was scouting new places (new for me) today. Ray Crawford in his book mentioned that wading in the area of The Lagoon drain could be quite productive.
Well, I got quite a surprise when I got there -- bunch of people fishing from rocks (catching flounder now and then) and bunch of "no swimming/wading signs".
So, is this area forever closed for waders? I went for couple of hundred of yards to the East (towards southern jetty) -- there are no signs there...
Why those nice and popular government people closed put up those signs? ("because someone drowned" is not a good reason from my point of view)
And, while we are on the this topic:
- is there any fishing in the Lagoon itself? I waded it for two hours today, saw bait activity and small drums (I think) working the shore. Didn't get a bite. Ray mentions that you could find flounder in there next to grass, but I suspect this can be an outdated knowledge.
- drove to East Beach -- there is a sign demanding payment to drive on the beach. Does it mean I need to pay to get to that little parking spot (closes to jetty)?
- can you wade here? That area looks interesting...
- waded on the left side of galveston ferry station -- not a bite (though some dude caught three from the boat). Someone told me that this area isn't as good as it was before some dredging somewhere. Do you know anything about it? (at the end of day I went to SWP and caught 7 flounders and bunch of sand trouts -- so I wasn't skunked... But scouting expedition produced only questions :-\ )
- and finally -- what is the deal with bunch of motorcycles today in Galveston? They were hundreds of them.
