Livingston Dam 7/30 and 7/31

Stayed two days in a row at the dam. It was out of this world Thursday mornng catching huge whites on 5/8 ounce rattle traps. I was keeping nothing under 13" with a 16.5" to top it off.

The stripers started schooling on top at the cable, but this time it was every where including right at the boat. In the clear water you could see the stripers chasing the shad right at the side of the boat. I lost count of how many I caught using 12 lb line and a chrome blue back rattle trap. Kept a 21" and 23" and had a ball releasing many more some that where bigger.

Friday morning things had changed the striper didn't come close. I still caught them on the long rod but nothing like the day before. Caught five or so and kept limit. I use a 14 ft steel head rod, it is like a surf rod with the extended handle but has the action of a saltwater trout rod mated with a Ambassador 6500c3 and 20lb big game. The cork I use is called a rocket launcher I use the 2 oz one.

The white bass didn't do much top schooling either. They where still there just a bit deeper and not as big on average.

To the gentleman I fished next to Thursday he was in Mako and Friday in a 17ft tracker txt. It was a pleasure sharing the cable with you. I was in a 14 ft grey Allweld with side console and float boxes. Don't know if you 2cool or not.

Folks watch those back swirls in the current when you are at the cable. If you don't use two anchors one in front one in back the swirl can push you way past the line. No problem if you are paying attention you just get back where you belong. Thing is you get excited catching fish and don't realize it until your friendly Polk County Sheriff's Deputy is telling you to meet him at the ramp.
