Best RPM for outboard

What is the ideal RPM to run outboard motor at to maximize its longevity?

I found 3800 to 4,000 seems to be the best....judging by the sound of the engine. It is also most comfortable for my 18' bay boat. Higher than 4,000 rpm turns into rough ride with the boat bottom slamming hard on swell.

Mercury manual suggests two types of engine oil, 25-40 and 10-30 (cold temperature environment). Isn't 25-40 the same as diesel engine oil? I'd think 10-30 full synthetic would be best given it is thinner and quicker to lubricate engine components at start up ??
