La Marque police surround house after apparent prank call

A La Marque police officer stands outside a patrol car at the intersection of FM 519 and Clark Street in La Marque Thursday afternoon. Police surrounded a house after someone called in and reported that two people had been killed inside the house. The call turned out to be a hoax, police said.

LA MARQUE — Police determined a call reporting a double homicide at a La Marque home was a hoax.

Officers surrounded the house in the 2300 block of Clark Street after a man called police shortly before 1:30 p.m. and said he had killed both his parents, and intended to kill again, police Lt. Chad Waggoner said.

After surrounding the home and using a public address system to order anyone inside the house to come out, three surprised family members emerged.

Police searched the house and determined the reported killings had been a hoax, Waggoner said.

One of the men inside the house told police he had been in an online dispute about a piece of software, and had been the subject of death threats and other harassment from people on the Internet.

The phone number used to call police may have come from an Internet line, and did not appear to be based in the county, Waggoner said.
