So, first a confession: I've not spent much time in bait shops, so up until two weeks ago, I've never seen shad* (saw fresh dead shad, roughly 6"-7" long). The asterisk is because a few months back, I was wading off St. Joe, and about 150 shad busted the surface in front of me as I was wading back to the boat. Not having seen shad before, I thought maybe they were baby Jacks. Startling none the less.
When I was in a back lake a few weeks back, there were crazy fish popping just below the surface. You couldn't see the fish, but you could see them popping all around; it was another first for me. I assume, based on where I was (very close to the first wading spot mentioned above) that they were being driven to the surface by something. What would be the proper lure to throw in this instance? What would be the best bait to have out, and fished how?
SS Minnow does not have a trolling motor, so if this were an instance where I should be trolling, I'd be SOL.
