The last couple nights of gigging have been really nice. Calm winds have provided a rare chance to explore areas that are not normally friendly for gigging. Open bay oyster reefs, mid-bay islands, and dredge spoil areas have been prime targets the last few nights. These areas can pay off big during the right conditions, and are a welcome change of pace to normal shoreline and flats gigging.

I had the Ronnie M. group of 4 on the boat tonight. Conditions were perfect, with dead calm winds and normal tide level that was falling fast. With the light winds and clear water tonight, we were able to work some areas I only get a chance to go 1-2 times a year. Tonight we focused on open bay shell reefs, working the up-current (North) side of the reef. The flounder were sitting everywhere along the reefs, with lots of smaller ones seen along the way. We got on the fish fast tonight, gigging 18 in the first 30 minutes. We ended with a 20 flounder limit plus 2 sheepshead by 9:45pm.
