Looking through the various threads and the pics that 2-Coolers have of their PU's, I wondered, "What happened"?
For years PU's were basic, no frills, usually short.
Then came long beds, then some fleetsides along with the stepsides.
Then a few with frills like AC and automatic trannies, and a very few with diesels. Then, the BIG change, extended cabs! At first they simply had a storage section, then jump seats, then full seats, then a third half-door, then two half-doors. The interiors became plush with every option one could imagine. Then, the epitome, four doors! 4 wheel drive and diesel is almost standard, along with every option available in a Benz top of the line.
Just an observation. Today, if one sees a short bed standard PU it looks "funny". But a dressed out long-bed diesel PU with 4 wheel drive, 4 door, jacked-up, with a winch, and flashy wheels, it is almost the norm.
My first PU was an ugly '66 IH short-bed with an AM radio and heater. I like the new evolved ones! Big changes in only ~40 years.
