Booby Trap Planning on Chartering in Costa Rica next season

Well its not completely done yet but its close another Booby Trap may be on the water soon and we are pretty excited. We have spent much of the past month in Los Suenos Costa Rica looking at boats and property/Condos for our guest. We have looked at over 20 boats and keep going back to the same one. We have pretty much narrowed it down to 3 boats so far and made our first offer on one of them yesterday. One is a 56 ,another is a 50 and the one that really seams to be the best fishing boat of what we have seen is a 43'. I'm leaning toward the 43 my self.. I have fished in a lot of boats in my life but this little sucker is a weapon! Like I said its not done but we are close. Anyway last trip we got to fish aboard a sister ship as a sea trial aboard the Super Fly. The Super Fly is a 43 Maverick custom cold mold boat made right there in Costa Rica. The boats maneuverability is incredible. This boat has over 12000 hours on the engines and were rebuilt 2000 hours ago and still managed 12 knots in reverse chasing blue marlin. We fished with the owner of Maverick Custom Yachts "Larry" the day after he gave us a full tour of the facility. The new boat he has in progress is the one we are looking at to buy. The cool thing is if we buy that one we get to lay I out the way we want for strictly fishing! It is a little wider than the others they have built but with the new design and the modifications being done to the boat it is estimated to hit 13-15 knots in reverse. They have customized the transom for more lift and upgraded the motors in this boat and adding more fuel for the long trips we would be planning. The boat is really cool and we enjoyed spending the time with Larry and the crew of the Super Fly. Great guys. Weather we end up buying this boat or not I will say it is insane and a fish catching machine. No pluff in this boat just straight up a bad a## designed sportfishing rig. Larry shows true passion in what his company is building you can see that in the Maverick video. We will update everyone if all this goes through.

South Padre Island - Surf

We are heading down to SPI this week with the family. I was looking to wet a line in the surf on Thursday and possibly Friday. Has anyone recently fished the surf in SPI or has it been too windy.



I typically reference windfinder.com to get an idea on conditions for bay fishing. Sometimes spot on, sometimes not like anyother... Current forecast for Thursday calls for winds out of the South/Southeast at 5 mph and waves to be 2 to 2.3' and out of the southeast. The forecast for Friday is very similar. High tide both days is at 8:30 a.m.



This will be my first endeavor fishing the surf but the forecasted conditions appear to be good. Am i missing something?

Looking to take the at least the level 1 class in September. Anyone else on here NACE certified for inspection. In your opinion, would it be a good move?? I have some buddies in the pipeline business that are encouraging me, said it would be good to get in to. So, I figure, why not??

Fishing and Real Estate Question in Galveston and Tiki Area

My wife and I are getting serious about buying a beach house on Galvestons west end. I have a boat in Sargent now that I will bring with me, but I've never fished West Bay or Jones Bay or around San Luis Pass. I'm looking at bayside houses with canal access.



My question is: Is there much of a difference from a fishing perspective amongst the bays in this area? I throw nothing but artificials and my boat is shallow, but not real skinny. Any advice on the bay that might steer me more towards for example Jamaica beach over Tiki Island? Is the fishing generally better by the pass? Any help is really appreciated!

No Grapes

I have an arbor over the front sidewalk and 3 yrs ago I (Momma Lobo and I) decided to plant grapes. One concord and a variety called Mars. 2 yr old plants in the ground. 1st year, nothing much happened. Last year a whole lotta bunches but did not mature. This year started out as a bumper crop. Grew good, grapes getting bigger, starting to get sweet. BAM!!!!! Mockingbirds out the wazoo. Little beggars aren't even scared of us. Scarecrows (long sleeved shirts on hanger), Pie plates and various things that move and make noise hung all over the arbor. Looks like a hardware store. Takes them about 5 minutes to get used to each addition. Covered best as possible with window screen. Still find a way in. Dead grapes covering the sidewalk. Walked out on the porch this morning with a cup of coffee and could see 3 of them pecking away. Glanced over at me and kept on eating. Waving my arms and " Shoo!!!" Looked like a covey of quail flushing outta the vines. Grapes almost gone. Guess I'm not gonna get any this year either.

New To Surf Fishing - Just Moved To Houston

I have grown up fishing all over the Southern Texas Coast. The one type of fishing I have never done is surf fishing. We no longer have a boat, so surf fishing seems like a great option for me. Now that I am close to the coast again I plan on making it to the beach at least once a month.



I bought two 12' ugly stick rods and put my two penn 7000 spinning reels with 20lb test on them. Also bought two surf rod stakes, some 4 oz sputnik weights and made some leaders with 5/0 circle hooks. I am assuming this will do?



A few more question:



Would cut mullet be the best bet year round?



How would you fish live mullet if I am able to cast net them?



I have a sedan, and cannot go in many places on the beach, so where can I go to get away from the crowds? Looking for places within 90 minutes of SE Houston.



Is the seaweed still terrible? We went 3 weeks ago and it was not enjoyable for the women.



I have a 9wt fly rod and just bought some charteuse and white clousers and a sand flea fly. What is the best way to fish the surf this time of year? What all is catchable? Should I use a stripping basket? How far out?



What is the best leader to use? I made a few out of 20 lb fluorocarbon with two dropper loops for the hooks and tied the weight at the end.



Any other tips that might help me catch some fish?



I will be in Port A for 5 days over the fourth, so looking forward to surf fishing at night during the trip!

Eagle Lake Scouting Report

I drove south from Sealy to Eagle Lake. Very little farming on that stretch.



A couple of rice fields near Sealy and 4 more just outside Eagle Lake. The rest looked dismal.



From Eagle Lake south there was a considerable amount of farming and a substantial amount of plowed ground There were probably a dozen fields of rice and a bunch of fields planted in corn between Eagle Lake and Egypt. And the corn actually looked good, which was surprising. Some of the rice fields were seed rice which isn't the best.



Waterfowl season is just around the corner. We will be seeing bluewings in another 3 or 4 weeks. Usually by the end of July I see the first couple of small flocks.

I was attempting to look up tide charts here and get really crazy dates and such. Anyone else having this problem?:eek:

16 Ft El Pescador 70 hp yamaha

The hull is a 1989 hull from El Pescador but everything was completely rebuilt in Oct 2013. All hardware and components on the boat are new Oct 2013.



George from South Texas Boatworks did all of the fiberglass work. If it was fiberglass George replaced it. He replaced the transom and deck, added new stringers and foam, reglassed the hull and center console, and added new gel coat. The boat is built better now than it was in 1989 due to improvements we made like glassed the top cap to the hull and reinforced the stringer system.



The outboard is a 2008 yamaha 2 stroke with approximately 30hrs. About half of the hours on it are in fresh water. When I found it in Oct 2013 it was sitting in a crate someone’s garage and had never been started or seen the back of a boat. It was a brand new motor. I purposely sought this specific motor due to its light weight and excellent hole shot.



The boat sits on an 2013 aluminum single axle trailer from Tex All Aluminum. The trailer is new as of Oct ’13 and has roughly 500 miles on it. It also has Vault 5 year maintenance free sealed bearings.



All rigging was done by Tommy Tran in Palacios in Oct 2013. Tommy installed the gas tank, bob’s mini jackplate, perko switch, pop up cleats and all electrical work.



The boat also comes with custom aluminum grab rail on the center console and a removable poling platform. All aluminum has black powder coat. Also includes two 72qt igloo ice chest and tie downs



Its wired for Garmin 541 (garmin unit not included)



Front casting platform and pushpole in pictures are not included.



All titles are in hand



Boat is located in Pearland (near Bass Pro Shops).

A question for people who are in the oil and gas industry!!

So I currently work for a drilling company down in south Texas. My position is a floor hand or roughneck. Ive worked closely with my motor hand and derrick hand and really have no interest in either one of those jobs. The way my position evolves is to move to one of those positions at some point. Like I said I have no interest in moving to either one of those positions but I also understand that I cant roughneck for the rest of my life. My question is does anyone know of any other positions in the Oilfield that a roughneck would be qualified for that has similar pay?? Or which way should I direct my career towards. Heck any advice really.

Just a little windy

With the rain shower just before sunset and the winds blowing around 20-25mph, we headed out to see if we could even attempt to gig some flounder in POC.

Our first stop was completely blown out with muddy water. So, we pushed on a little further to see if it would get better.

We ended finding some protected water way back in the marsh with the help of the higher tide.

The flounder were a little hit and miss but consistent enough to get a 3 man limit in about 2 hrs. Not knowing how the weather was going stay throughout the night, it was a blessing to finish up quick and get in. As I was cleaning the fish, the winds picked up a little harder and the stars were disappearing from the sky.

Going to try for another one tomorrow, hopefully the water will clear up some.

I am glad to see the bays get a little bit of fresh water.

2006 Craigcag (Cool Little Boat)

'06 craigcat catamaran catch it model. '06 25hp Merc 4-stroke with electric start/ electric trim/tilt. I purchased in 2011 it had about 80hrs on the motor. Has around 110-120hrs now I'd guess

Very cool fishing boat. Will run skinny (7-8") and will plane in about 10-12". Floats in about 3". I've chased reds way back in the marsh with this boat and it works awesome. Handles chop amazingly well, very surprising how good this thing rides. Comes with the Bimini top that I still have but I built an aluminum rack that I use for it to go under the Texas bayou and Keith lake bridges. Everything works, in good condition, just selling because I don't have time for it anymore.

A former US Marine has claimed he spent 17 years of his career on MARS.

Buck Management on High Fenced Ranch

I read threads all the time about how people name their bucks and have their age down to the exact year because they have been watching them for "x" years.



My question is...has anyone found an easy way to track the deer, compare them in pics, and keep a log of them over the years? I am currently doing it in Excel, but it is pretty tough to go through thousands of pictures from each year and try to remember the bucks I see and identifiable characteristics they have.



Any tricks, tactics, tools people use would be really helpful. I am about to start going through pictures from the past 2.5 years just to get an idea of what to do with the herd this year.

I currently have a Lowe 1648 flatbottom with a 24hp longtail. Usually hunt with 3 guys and dog and its rather slow. Looking at upgrading to a 35hp surface drive. Does anyone run a 35 on a 1648? What kind of speed could I expect?

What problem do you have with guides?



Why does everyone assume that some guy out with 4 guys on a boat is a guide



Do you really think guides limit out everyday?



Do you think some guides do anything illegal?



Do you think they are just that much better than you, so you have to complain



I must point out, that some of the best fisherman out there I know are NOT GUIDES.... And some are.



Do you believe that we are hurting the resource?



If a guide is a jerk, is he being a jerk for a reason because you did something wrong to him... Potlick him or something>



I could care less about potlickers myself.. If they get int he way, i try and educate them to as to proper ettiquite...No yell at them across the water.. and i have give up on tossing topwaters there direction lol



I have been guiding for a number of years, and the only thing i see is that we are all to angry simply by the amount of boat traffic on the water, which most are not guides.



I can sit at the boat ramp and see who is a guide, who is a wanna be guide and who simply is someone trying to catch fish that has no idea what they are doing... I give those guys hints and try and help them out..



IN the end, all we want to do is have a good time using the resourse that belongs to EVERYONE in the state and visitors of our great state.



No one on this site can every say that i was a jerk, that i cut them off or that i yelled at them... Once i decided it just wasnt worth it years ago.



I try and give tips all the times, and i get tons of calls from people just asking question



We all have the same quest... TO CATCH Fish and have fun

03 dodge 5.9 Fuel Mileage

If any 2coolers have a 5.9 dodge diesel, what fuel mileage do you get? I avg about 15, just wondering what was normal. My truck is stock. Wondering if maybe I have something bad or going bad. Ran lucas and other fuel additives and nothing helps. Maybe someone here can help.

Tapatalk help

My apps updated today. Now on tapatalk for example I use browse, go to boating forum and I can only see about 20 threads. Then as I scroll down they just start over. So I cant see any other threads. Also if I leave app and return I lose where I was at and it starts from choose forum. I already tried to reinstall. Any help?

Bi-Fold ATV Ramp - 7'

For those who use electric knifes

I have been using the electric knife for cleaning fish for eons! I have tried several different brands through the years. Lately the piranha series which I consider pretty much junk. I was introduced to the American angler model recently by shad slinger. WOW! what a HUGE! Difference between the two. So I promptly ordered one up. It came with 5 blade sets. I just couldn't get over how much easier it was to fillet out those striper with this knife.

This knife is far superior quality than the mister twister junk.

Daughters first trout

Was able to get down south over Father's Day weekend. Karlie caught her first trout and the first fish of the day. Needless to say I was happy the rest of the weekend no matter what.

New TV

Looking for a new HD LED/LCD? TV. Something around 30'' Any suggestions? Starting to look around online. Is there a website that compares prices at every store?

Swordfish Bill Art

I have a swordfish bill in the freezer that I caught a while back and was saving it to have some artwork done on it. I have done a little research and narrowed it down to Dan Matthews and RJ Boyle even though I have not discussed it with either yet. Just wanting to know if anyone has seen both and how they compare....and if you have only seen one or the other what your thoughts were on the quality of the work. Also, any input on overall experience with either of the two would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM as well.
