Islamorada Recommendation
My wife and I are heading down to Islamorada in the Keys for 4 days, June 29-July 3rd. I figured I would reach out to the 2cool brain trust and see what you guys recommended. I am honestly looking to target Tarpon and Snook with a side of Bonefish/Permit. I know this is the bluewater board, but typically some well traveled fisherman in here. We are staying at the Cheeca Lodge...... Any and all input is appreciated!

Tough Day LL 5.31.14
Me and my bro hit the lake at daylight. Heavy fog on the west shore so had to take it easy trying to get to island for a possible top water action. But it was very slow out there for me. So I decided to make a trip to the midlake area and ended up with a decent 33 nice keeper whites and several keeper throwbacks and several undersized zebras. Lake was in good shape in both areas. This pressure swing going on has em tight lipped though. Still great to get a line wet!
You can find strange things in the river...
This must be my lucky month for gas cans. I found a nearly new metal 6 gallon boat tank floating in the river the other day. Still full of gas!
Then yesterday I found another metal 5 gallon utility gas can in great shape and yes it was nearly full!
At this rate I'm going to go into the river salvage and scavenge business.

Edit signature, where did it go too??, changed avatar and want to change the sig, to go with it, but not on my control panel like it uses to be.
And now we wait...
Just got done pulling the boat out of the shop. Cleaned the dust off and checked everything pumps, generator, lights, electronics, etc. All in working order. I even decarbed to motors. Unfortunately missed this window. Now its time to wait for someone to turn off the wind switch. Mid June just after snapper "season" usually does the trick. Come on blue skies and calm seas.

What's your average MPG in your f150?
I got my 2013 f150 v6 in December and my average MPG is around 15.5-16. To me that seems on the low end. I run regular gas and don't consider myself to have a real heavy foot. Average on the highway, I drive 75.

Is catching mangrove snapper in canals normal?
I grew up in south Florida and catching mangroves is like taking candy from a baby, however, I was fishing a canal in the freeport area and my brother in law caught 2 mangroves. So....is this something that happens regularly or an aberration to the the norm?

New river fishing rig
Recently got a used 1432 jon boat which is a good size for my 7 hp long tail. A little narrower than I wanted but it is surprisingly stable and I can easily weave it through obstacles at any speed. This boat also climbs up riffles like they are flat water. Gonna have some good trips in the next few months. Time to get the fishing bow and fly rod back out.
Favorite coffee?
After 40 years of drinking instant coffee, I'm now brewing each morning. Tried Duncan Donuts with fair results. Want something better, but don't want to spend a lot of money trying to find the right one. Whats your favorite?
SS report 5-30-14 White/striped bass fishing
My good buddies from Forth Worth made their annual trip with me today, Brian and his son, Joe.
these guys can jig em up! They have been coming with me for about 6 years I believe.
Truly some of my longest time customers, and very fine people.
They can fish with the best of them too, when I find a school of fish and tell them to drop down I can count on them making hay. A few times today I would tell them to crank up 3 or 4 or whatever depth I saw the fish coming by at. And wham the stripers would hit!
Sometimes a giant white bass, the schools were thick at 15', that could be a sing of a themrocline developing.
The first top today I told Joe, who is 13 now, to drop down and be ready.
I could see stripers on the screen, they were 15 feet thick under the boat, and I said that he would get hit his first lift.
Somehow his slab made it to the bottom and on his first lift he ran a foul of a 19' striper. It was great fun watching him wrestle it in on the light spinning tackle. We caught several more there, along with magnum white bass.
They are on vacation and didn't want a limit of fish just enough for a fish fry back at the camp ground/cabins.
Sleepy Hollow cabins in Goodrich, they stay there each year and brag on how great the place is.
We dodged some rain and trapperjon sent me a text asking if we were coming in?
I forgot to tell him we were coming in later, as we started at 8:00AM.
So we dropped the 30 white bass and four stripers off and went back out for a bit.
We caught some more big white bass we let go and one more keeper striper.
trapperjon did a great job on the fish and left them bagged up and iced down for the crew, and I cleaned the one striper, a semi shuffle.
:walkingsm:mpd:
I know, I forgot to get some pictures.
I will get some tomorrow for sure.
See you on the water.

Hogs eat snakes?
I only see a snake every couple of years or so on my place up near Centerville and my neighbor told me the hogs eat them so there aren't as many as there used to be. I also used to get ticks a lot years ago but seldom now. He said that is about the only advantage to having fire ants. Sounds logical.
Converting Loran TD's to lat/lon in my GPS - offset values?
I have a list of Loran TD's that I want to convert to lat/lon.
I have read all about Loran, and I know that this is not a simple conversion and that it won't likely be perfect. But I want to get as close as I can.
My Garmin GPS allows me to enter data in TD format, which is how I plan to do it.
I figured out what Loran Chain was used to capture these spots, and which two stations were used. Chain 7980, stations W and X.
The question I have is about something my Garmin GPS is calling "TD Offset" for each of the two stations I am using. The Garmin is asking for a decimal number, and is defaulted to 0.0. I don't know what to use here.
I have the both the Loran TD's and lat/lon numbers for a couple of spots that I think I can use as a reference. When I enter and convert the Loran TD's, they are very close to the lat/lon but not exact. Do I need to just start making guesses with the "offset" until the resulting lat/lon matches? Is there a more scientific way to do this?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Boat Deck Repaint
Good greetings all, i was thinkin about redoing the paint on the deck of my Baby Cat and i was hoping to get some good instructions and tips on doing it myself. There is nothing wrong with the hull itself but the color of the deck is like an off-white, yellowish color. Im getting the upholstery redone to white with blue strip on it so i wanted to redo the deck to a white color to make it match (and maybe the blue splatter if it comes easy).
Stupid question, but can i just sand down the existing paint and paint over it?
Thanks in advance!!!

Need some opinions pleasure island vs. the surf
So I am going fishing in the morning and I am torn where to go. I have been fishing pleasure island every weekend and have been catching good trout but swell info shows low swells for tomorrow morning. I live 15 minutes from the island compared to a 45 minute drive to high island. I know the old saying don't leave fish to find fish, but I am dying to get in the water and surf fish. Wanted to get some 2cool opinions on what y'all would do.

We are now offering full HD videos of your fishing trip!!!
Hey 2coolers,
We bought a Go Pro camera and took it out for a trial run the other day. We will soon be offering full HD videos of your trip so your memories can last a lifetime. I put a mount on the motor and it compliments the console up front setup well. We can also experiment with chest mounts and helmet mounts for more live action shots. Check out this sample video we recorded a couple of days ago. We caught a pretty good one at the 4 min mark and got a little excited. Let me know what you think!!!

I've decided to sell because my eldest son is going to attend Seminary after graduating college next year and I'm going to try and help him as much as I can. Thanks for the help.

Surf today
Drove to Bryan Beach and then down to the river.
Muddy and lots of weed in the water and on the beach.
Waves weren't bad but the color of the water and the weed is not good.
Same way towards at Quintana.
Then drove to Sargent. Only one lane open and it is narrow.
Water is MUDDY. About as chocolate as the surf gets. Not much weed in the water but plenty on the beach.

Sanctuary in POC
My parents are considering building a house there becuase they like the idea of water front and for a new house it seems to be as well priced as somthing in town and seems that you get alot of new amenities. They are thinking of building minimal size house for the lot they choose. Anyone have any insight into that? Just looking for other input that we may have not have thought about. Seems that you are a little higher elevation too? Wana hear the good and the bad.
Egg laden Trout
Having come from the "old days" when Trout were on the commercial list and having done considerable net fishing for same, I'll let you in on a not well known tidbit of information. You don't catch a Trout just before it spawns on hook and line, you do in nets.
Just before spwan, each individual egg is about 3/32"-1/8" in in diameter and redish in color, not the small yellow corn meal size you are used to seeing. I caught them in nets with eggs like that but never one on hook and line.
Now one and one = two. That leads me to believe the sows don't feed just before they spwan. I've gutted Trout for market with egg sacks in them I know weighed over 2 lbs, probably closer to 3 lbs.
If anyone has ever (hook and line) caught a "close to spawn" Trout with the big bloody eggs, let me know. Other wise I'll stand by my assesment.

Hey 2coolers, I'm based out of the south side of Corpus, and hoping to get out on the bay with some like-minded, artificial-chunkin, god-fearin, non-liberal, trout chasers. I've read about all these awesome, legendary locations and have hit a few but I'm limited to my yak and 2 feet. Our dog ate our dinner!
Well, got home and decided to make a quick and easy dinner. Took out some German garlic deer venison links for wrap around and stuck them on the patio table to defrost. Did not take long at all, with the sun shinning like it is now and they were defrosted. I’m out of charcoal and propane for the grills so I cranked up the broiler and stuck them in the oven. Man, in a matter of seconds the oven is smoking like a smoker! I took the links out of the oven and they were smoking, like a cigar, so I stuck them outside on the patio table. I’m thinking what the heck! Well, figured the oven was dirty or something, though it did not look that bad at all. Anyway, stuck on the cleaner switch, while was I messing with all this, my dog (Chocolate Lab) starts scratching at the door like he needs to 10-200 real 911. Well, I let him out and finish with the oven and so forth. The wife gets home and says what you burn? I said nothing, when is the last time you cleaned the oven? She said, I don’t know? I said, the oven is smoking like a Cuban Cigar. She says so, no big deal, let it clean. I said ok, let’s just fry the sausage links. She said, Ok where they at? I sat on the back patio. She says where? I said, right there on the baking pan on the back patio table. She says, this one?! (holding up an empty pan)!I look at the dog and his napping like he ate too much!
Is repairing worth it?
No offense to repair guys however after you have a reel in saltwater for a couple of years is it worth it?
If it is, what reels are worth it, $100 or $200 reels or maybe more? Are there certain brands over others? I have just recently started to buy higher quality reels and want to hang on to them for a long time. I always bought the cheaper reels and they might last a year or two in salt water and parts inside and out were corroded. A good reel is expensive these days and wondering what some of you think about it.

Gumption
A young guy from North Dakota moves to Florida and goes to a big "everything under one roof" department store looking for a job.
The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says "Yeah. I was a vacuum salesman back in North Dakota."
Well, the boss was unsure, but he liked the kid and figured he'd give him a shot, so he gave him the job.
"You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did."
His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down to the sales floor.
"How many customers bought something from you today?" The kid frowns and looks at the floor and mutters, "One". The boss says "Just one?!!? Our sales people average sales to 20 to 30 customers a day.
That will have to change, and soon, if you'd like to continue your employment here. We have very strict standards for our sales force here in Florida. One sale a day might have been acceptable in North Dakota, but you're not on the farm anymore, son."
The kid took his beating, but continued to look at his shoes, so the boss felt kinda bad for chewing him out on his first day. He asked (semi-sarcastically), "So, how much was your one sale for?"
The kid looks up at his boss and says "$101,237.65".
The boss, astonished, says $101,237.65?!? What the heck did you sell?"
The kid says, "Well, first, I sold him some new fish hooks. Then I sold him a new fishing rod to go with his new hooks. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition."
The boss said "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and a TRUCK!?"
The kid said "No, the guy came in here to buy tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing

Who ever reads this please keep Gary in your prayers!! I am not going into details but prayers never are a bad thing...

Filling the Box w/ Run-N-Gun Adventures
I hope everyone had a fabulous and safe Memorial Day weekend. It's been to long since I've posted a report and for that I'm sorry. This spring was really hit or miss due to so many cold fronts pushing through late into the season and on top of each other. The wind could never decide which way it wanted to howl from, but howling never the less. Hopefully the last major temperature dropping front came through about 10 days ago and the summer patterns will start to hold. This past week and weekend the guys really put together some great boxes with customers while wading with croaker. When the tide moved the fish fed well and when they went slack, then the fishing turned to a grind. Over the weekend the tide really didn't move much till later in the morning and "grey suits" seemed to arrive between 11am-noon everyday like a dinner bell. During the week the guys were almost done by then and didn't have any troubles with them. Over the weekend that was a different story and they ate well Sat and Sun. If this continues, then we'll be pulling the PVC pipes back out to put our fish in. Our area and most of Texas is finally getting a good spring rain that'll help flush out the rivers and back lakes while dumping some much needed fresh water into our bay systems. Enjoy the pictures and below are the few remaining dates that we have open during June. If you want in on the action then I need to hear from you ASAP!

New boat help?
Looking at a 2009 Skeeter ZX200 with a 200 Yamaha VMAX HPDI Series 2. It has 2 Hummingbird 898c SI GPS's. Reviews on everything above would be great. And the motor has 75 hours on it. And got a question about the motor. What's the difference between a VMAX HPDI and a VMAX HPDI Series 2? I heard it had to do with the pistons but I'm not sure. I've ran Evinrude all my life and looking at this boat with a Yamaha so advice and reviews would be great on the motor!

Kingfish for cut bait?
I found some old kingfish fillets buried in the deep freeze. Not going to eat em so I was wondering if it would be legal to use it as cut bait for catfish? Anybody know the rules/regulations on that?
Cut bait question
I found some old kingfish fillets while cleaning out the deep freeze and was going to throw them out until I had an idea... Is it legal to use kingfish as cut bait for catfish? It's greasy meat that's not the best for eating. The only reason I brought it home from that blue water trip was I was going to try smoking it... I never did it and now using it for bait sounds more fun. Any thoughts?

Where to put the boat in to fish the surf at Surfside

Free Palm trees...
I have two sable palmetto palm trees, free to a good home.
Easy access and no need to fill the holes.
One is ~ 8’, the other ~ 6 ?
I was going to just saw them down, then I saw a post about giving them away as they are actually quite expensive to purchase new.
Need them gone ASAP, trees are located in Demi-John area near Surfside.
PM for more info....

If anyone happens to hook on to an American Rodsmith Pro Lite with a Revo reel on it your welcome! Couple hundred bucks going over board sure puts a damper on your day. Came home on rod short with an empty fish box but i guess it still was better than being at home dreaming about fishing.
165 acres- Live Oak/McMullen County line
**** Mountain View Ranch- 165 acres ******
When you are looking for a fine recreation / hunting property in South Texas- start with the Mountain View Ranch! This is the type of medium sized hunting ranch that does not become available very often and offers so many of the characteristics a large (1,000 + acre property) might have. Excellent quality water well, 2 stock tanks, extensive road system throughout, native brush with bull mesquites, some semi-open bird country, panoramic views, complete end of the road privacy, giant neighbors and absolutely loaded with trophy game ( big deer, turkeys are plentiful, lots of quail, too many hogs, and great dove hunting). The perimeter is game fenced on three sides and has been for 20+ years.
This is a property that truly has not been hunted in over 10 years! The genetics are as good as South Texas has to offer ! Riser Ranch and Wheeler Ranches are the neighbors on three sides and the McMullen County line is the west fence line.
It is extremely hard to find a place this size that has and will produce 150"+ B & C grossing bucks year in and year out but this place is capable!
The Mountain View Ranch has a nice wet weather creek running along the entire west side and also is blessed with excellent elevation change offering the previously mentioned views.
The soils here are as good as it gets! Sandy loam soils throughout the ranch are very productive and the vegetation shows it. Big granjeno, bull mesquites, hackberry, coma trees, guajillo, lots of prickly pear, catclaw and various other species litter the ranch.
Improvements- 1 water well, 2 stock tanks, excellent road system, electricity, telephone
Surface Only Estate- No minerals owned and no production on the ranch. 2 pipelines cross the ranch
Not your typical small ranch in a subdivision! Come take a look at the best hunting ranch for it's size on the market today!
Price- $3,375/ac

Price- $3,375/ac

where to get Ipad fixed
Like the title says. My sons broke the screen on the ipad. I bought a replacement and after replacing it the actual lcd does not work. Anyone had theirs repaired and where did you go. Im around Pasadena Area.
another dang spooling question
Have an old garcia 6500 that I was considering sandwiching some braid between mono base and mono topshot... main idea is to add extra yardage in case a jack or something big runs out my line.. Definitely dont want to deal with a braided backlash, thats why i rather have the topshot mono.
Is that an advantageous thing to do or will it be pointless or even a disadvantage?
Would that set up negate the casting advantages of braid?
Guesstimates on lengths for each section?

need some advice wrt surf fishing
I have been dragged against my will to Galveston this Sunday... So, after surviving traffic (and with a grim foreboding of traffic on way out) I used this opportunity to try surf fishing. While kids were having fun in waves I went out to catch something. It wasn't spectacular, but I wasn't skunked either (got big old lady-fish on vudu shrimp) -- so, I'd say the ground is broken.
Really enjoyed this type of fishing -- bobbing in waves, trying to catch fish that swims and jumps around you. But I need some help with basics:
- place -- I was fishing right where people swimming (well, I went further in water to avoid snagging anyone). Should I look for secluded beaches or any beach spot is fine?
- location -- I know theory about sandbars, rip-current and cuts. But practice is a different story. I had to walk at least 40 yards to get to first sandbar. Could not reach second one because water was reaching my shoulders (and I am 6'6"). Is it normal? Or I do not understand what sandbar is? (it was outgoing tide)
- waves -- waves were pretty high (2-2.5' when they break). Do you fish in such waves? What is the proper conditions for fishing the surf? I tried fishing area between shore and first sandbar (2-3' of water) -- it was useless, water was basically boiling from breaking waves
- lures -- I tried different things (mirrorlure 51m, bucktail with gulp, vudu shrimp). Observed something small chasing mirrorlure few times, but always missing it (probably skipjack). Got one on vudu shrimp (and few misses) -- thsi lure produced most action. Got few very weak tugs on gulp. What you'd normally use? (in terms of artificials -- live shrimp would work anywhere, I know :-)).
- technique -- how do you work lures in surf? I found that in waves it behaves in a very different manner. It gets pulled back and forth, smashed around and generally does not really want to go down
- distance -- how far normally do you throw in surf? I found that throwing far does not seem to be working for me -- I end up snagging seaweed (and there is sh.tload of it right now) and have to reel in and cast it again.
- time -- what is the preferred time? or tide? Is there any difference between times or tides wrt fish location/mood?
- reel -- I think I ruined my most expensive reel; tried to save it from waves, but it is useless. In some waves I had to jump just to keep my head above the water. Soaked reel in freshwater for a while, but it is definitely not as smooth as it was. Which reels do you use and how do you maintain it? Is there any trick to prevent salt water from getting on/in your reel?
- fish -- what kind of fish you'd expect to catch (on artificials) currently? How about other months? Where they are expected to be feeding depending on time of year?
- footwear -- I brought my wading boots, but did not use them (realizing that they will just drag me down). Had no problems standing in the sand. Is there any good reason to wear them in surf fishing?
Huh, I ended up generating quite a few questions here... Apologies for that. I would appreciate any help with any number of them.
P.S. Do you wear PFD when surf fishing? I mean, unless rip forms around you there isn't any good reason to wear it (it seems).

another noob
but we all were once right? here are my stats
I am 40 (almost 41) born in the frozen tundra of WI but blessed by God to be here in TX now. I just started teaching myself to fish at all last year. Never had any family that did it and no friends that were interested. Moved here and got an outdoor bug that I could not shake. Been mostly to fresh water bank fishing (no boat ....yet). Found a few good mentors on line and off that got me on a good path.
I have 3 kids (18/16/12) and a wife who I am learning for as well. So I went to Galveston island state park and fished lake Como. I got a couple hits but could not land them.
Heard about wade fishing and nearly tried that day but now reading and finding out what I did not know I am glad I waited.
I am located in Kingwood and visit Freeport/Galveston as often as I can. I work a seven on seven off schedule.
To start I can use advice on gear. I have several types of poles and weights of lines. I really like using shrimp (live). I am mostly interested in what kind of clothes are important to keep me active and safe. I am a single income in my 5 person household so I can't get crazy with expense but I understand there is cost.
Is there anyone here who is willing to take a new guy out to show me how this all works. I am quick to learn and willing to listen.
So started to babble. Feel free to reach out here or PM me. Nice to meet you all and thank you in advance for all your help.

Top Water rod
Looking for suggestions on which rod to use for throwing Spook Jr's. I have tried the XSB 842 but found it to be a little on the heavy side both weight and action wise. I am going to try the XSB 822.5 and the XP 843 next. Is there another Batson rod that I should try out? Thanks.

John 16:5-11
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Now I am going to the one who sent me,
and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.
But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.
For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes he will convict the world
in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
sin, because they do not believe in me;
righteousness, because I am going to the Father
and you will no longer see me;
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.”

Battery Question
Can you overfill a lead acid battery with distiller water? If so will it harm the function of the battery?
Was doing my spring (hot weather) duty, checked and/or filled all four batteries on the bay boat. Then moved on to the wakeboard boat. The batteries inside the passenger console and hard to see unless you pull them out. So I'm wedged in with a flashlight trying to see the level. I filled both until they were close to overflowing but noticed today they are showing about 12.4 and 12.5 volts each. They stay on a two-bank all the time and usually show 13.2 to 13.4 when charged. Not that old and adding distiller water is the only thing different. Just curious.

Looking for a boat detailer in Katy
I brought the boat home so I could rub on her and realized I left all my detailing supplies at the coast. Plus it looks like rain and I have to travel this week.
Are there any boat detailers that would come to my house and put some love on my rig?
Looking for a wash, wax, etc.

Need a gameplan for Sabine Lake in June
Been a while since I've posted on the 2 Cool, but I need some help. I'll be heading down to my home town of Port Arthur to do some fishing on Sabine at the end of June. I currently live in DFW area & part time guide for crappie, Hybrids & Stripers on Lake Tawakoni. I fished Sabine last year about the same time & did just ok. After a morning bite & bird activity was done I was wish fishing. Just need some advice on where to look & depth. Want to target Specks & Reds mainly, but wouldn't turn sown some good ol flounder action.
1. Don't the birds usually work bait mid lake to causeway bridge in June/July?
2. Will fishing an hour before tide change increase my changes when fishing the marsh areas on Louisiana shoreline?
3. Can you still be fish up drifting the causeway reefs in June/July?
4. Live bait vs artificial?
Thanks in advance.

Negative busbar ?
I'm thinking of setting up a "negative busbar" closer to the battery compartment to complete the circuit to the washdown, livewell pumps, bulge and some astern courtesy lighting. The normal negative lead to the front panel (a larger guage) would remain and be used for electronics, horn, navagation lighting etc. Positive leads, circuit breakers and switches remain at the helm. I'm trying to improve and upgrade the wire size on that equipment without running everything back and forth to and from the helm. Are there issues I'm missing?

Night fishing thing 5/24/14
Ok after a few hours this is what was underneath our boat.I went through with the night fishing thing.I think every fish from the vicinity of pine island was underneath my boat. They were just hanging around trying to figured out if it was night or if it was day time.We were able to entice a few bites 15 whites and 1 stripers 18 1/2.Lots of small throwback stripers, white bass mix in.Just a few more hours and I know it gonna turn on like donkey kong, then it happens,a splitting headaches(carbon monoxide poisoning).Ask my fishing partner if he had an aspirin he said no so in we go.Was very disappointed I could not stay till morning because I know whats on my screen was gonna give us a night fishing experience we will never forget.I will sure to do this again really soon.Did not do much fishing Sunday. It was play time with the inlaws and there kids.I did check out some of my usual spot during noon but the fish just did not want to play today.I think it had to do with the lake looking like the zoo today.
Garza Taxidermy (Daniel Garza is a THEIF!)
Daniel Garza from Garza Taxidermy in Corpus Christi is definitely a thief! I been fishing these bays for many years and finally landed a 30+" trout while I was on a great memorable fishing trip w my family and coworkers. I decided to take it to garza taxidermy wout doing much research as he was local. WRONG MOVE! The guy sounded to be a straight up guy while he was taking my money. He painted a pretty picture as how the fish would look and how awesome his work is. I spent 45minutes with him as he showed me his shop and photos of prior work. He told me the mount would be ready in 90 days. It has been over a year that I have tried to even get a reply from the thief more less my fish! I paid him $300 to start the job and have not heard a word from him after numerous phone calls and stops to his shop throughout the year. I've sent emails, texts, left numerous voicemails, left letters at his door, and no luck! After doing more research I've seen his "F" rating in the BBA and how he has also been accused of stealing others money, animals, and memories on "trouble shooters" here on the local news. I've tried my all out hardest to contact Mr Daniel Garza almost every day with no success. Please do not fall for his trap and take your memories to someone more reputable than Daniel Garza Taxidermy! Hate that this has come down to this and have no other choice than to seek legal action. Not only bc of the measly $300 he stole from me but due to the fact that this guy is stealing our memories than can never be replaced.

1 Peter 3:15-18
Beloved:
Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be ready to give an explanation
to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope,
but do it with gentleness and reverence,
keeping your conscience clear,
so that, when you are maligned,
those who defame your good conduct in Christ
may themselves be put to shame.
For it is better to suffer for doing good,
if that be the will of God, than for doing evil.
For Christ also suffered for sins once,
the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous,
that he might lead you to God.
Put to death in the flesh,
he was brought to life in the Spirit.

Help!!!
Does anyone just go fishing and find out what conditions are like on their own anymore? I thought that was part of learning how to figure out some things for yourself without having people to act as a "crutch".
I really enjoyed the article in the most recent TSF Magazine about "instant gratification" fishermen these days.
There is nothing wrong with having someone to guide you now and then but it seems lots of folks are really getting bad about trying to find the "easy button" to fish. What happened to going fishing sonewhere new and learning some things as you go? What is up with people thinking they have to see a report before they go fishing? Some guys are the ones making the reports and some are just riding coat tails I guess.
We all had people help us figure things out but I guess I am still hard headed and don't mind driving over 100 miles one way to find out if the trout are in the surf yet...
What do yall think?

Some guys are the ones making the reports and some are just riding coat tails I guess.
We all had people help us figure things out but I guess I am still hard headed and don't mind driving over 100 miles one way to find out if the trout are in the surf yet...
What do yall think?

Where and when best snook and tarpon on Texas Coast?
I've been lucky enough to hook a snook and tarpon in Florida. Would love to get on some closer to home. Where and when might I find the best shot at these fish?
Thanks!
Thanks!
west end Galveston launches
I haven't been to the Sea Isle launch in a very long time. Is it free to the public, or at least pay per use by the public? Also, the launch behind Rusty Hook bait camp, on Tidewater: from street view it looks like it's private, and chained. Anyone know the story with that launch? Thanks...
Learning to Trade
For the past few months I coworker has been taking classes and seminars for trading stock. I have found it to be very interesting and was wondering if someone can give me some pointers where to start. Coworker told me to take David Mitchell's seminar at the end of June. I am green as green can be when it comes to the stock market. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Kyler Murray - rumor has it....
Rumor is he will announce on Wednesday.
One team is gonna get some great news, and likely some additional commits yo follow on the momentum.
Seems like a level headed kid, student of the game....and also one heckuva baseball player.
Oregon and A&M have been the lead horses for a long time.
Signing Kyle Allen may hurt us for this decision....though I think Murray would win out after a red-shirt year to mature.
Hope to see him in maroon/white.

John 15:18-21
Jesus said to his disciples:
“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own;
but because you do not belong to the world,
and I have chosen you out of the world,
the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you,
‘No slave is greater than his master.’
If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.
If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,
because they do not know the one who sent me.”

I need a recommendation for an electric deep fryer
Nothing real fancy, just looking for a french fry cooker and the occasional fish fryer. I was looking at some of the Warings. They are high in price, but are they worth it. I had bought an Oster while back, went to use it tonight, and it wouldn't come on straight out of the box.
WTB Rods
I'm looking to buy good used casting rods 6'6-7'0 ft. Short handle, ML power, fast-moderate action.

Visit from man in the grey suit
Fished W Matty about 2 miles E of Greens. Caught a 22 inch trout on top water 1st thing, and 25 inch red on a Fat Boy. Both on stringer and wading away when caught movement out corner of my eye ..... looked to see large shark dorsal fin way too close as, shark made pass at the end of the stringer. I yanked on stringer and got fish out of water quick, then made the wade back to the boat to stick em in the cooler.
Jumped back in, and after while caught another red on a Devil. Had in on the stringer and was wading, when all of a sudden behind me was a thrashing sound and a tug on my wading belt. I immediatly reached for the stringer and pulled it free of my belt just as it became taught. I saw the broadside of a very large shark as it turned away with the red and my stringer, as it ripped the spike end out of my hand. I looked for float end for 20 minutes, as I wanted my stringer back ........ never found it.

Powderhorn lake
Fished the West matagorda side of the powderhorn lake shoreline this morning lots of slicks popping up all around me and scattered bait but no takers on pumpkin seed and chartreuse or cork and gulp. On to the lake I went about 10am and stopped at the first reef next to the channel. Lots of bait working along with a dolphin. Waded the windward side and the leeward side of the reef, topwaters, paddeltails nor rat tails in various colors wouldn't produce a bite. I guess redfishlaw needs to give me some pointers. Have fun and Be safe this memorial day weekend and watch out for the idiots.

Electronic Engine Monitoring Question: Mercury
My buddy is in the middle of redoing his entire electronics package. Just got done installing all dual garmin 4212's, new radar, transducer, ect. and is about to pull the trigger on a Mercury Vessel View 7 to replace the gauges. His boat is a 2005(ish) 34 fountain with factory gauges and no fuel flow ect. It was not rigged well before this. He asked if I knew anything about it and I've been out of the outboard game for awhile and don't know anything about this new stuff.
Major question: is there anything better for monitorin trip mercs?
Side question: plus' sand Minus's of the system. Anything it doesn't do or doesn't do well that he should have additional gushes put in?

Warrior Weekend - Warrior Quote
"I was completely amazed and so proud to see how many of our citizens showing this amount of appreciation. The amount of reverence shown to us makes my 20 years of service all worth the while. What you did that day will always and forever be on our minds for many years to come. Again, I thank you for everything that you provided that day and hope you take great satisfaction for what you done for us. From my son and I, you and Johnny have made a difference in our lives and reinforced the belief that our sacrifice to our country goes not unnoticed" SSG Donner
I had the distinct privilege to Captain a boat on Warrior Weekend in POC. I wanted to humbly share part of a Warriors comment from a note he sent me this week. It reminds me of the importance of showing my/our appreciation to our Wounded Warriors and what our appreciation means to them. Many thanks to all the other Boat Captains, volunteers, sponsors and all the fine folks at warriorweekend.org. I was honored to be associated with the event again in 2014 and l look forward to 2015.

Be careful this weekend
It's been my experience this is always a waste of a wkend to fish and a good weekend to keep a good lookout. Especially for erratic tubers and jet skis. Having said that, I'm still nursing a convalescing wife, who promises to be well enought to get up after next Wed dr apt. Meanwhile I'm making slabs and flies and living vicariously through your posts.
My Mom still calls this Decoration Day. Let's all thank a Vet, especially those giving their life for the second time in the VA.

VA Hospitals
What exactly are they? Is it free health care for everyone that been in the armed forces or do they specifically cater to wounded and sick as a result of duty?
Muley Madness.com Hacked by Anonymous
Anyone here a member of Muley Madness message forums? I tried to get on this morning and there's a message from Anonymous (the hacking group) saying they've hacked the site and that they oppose "animal abusers." I'll avoid using the choice words that come to mind, but I was just curious if anyone here is a member and/or has any information about it.

If you are down on the island...
stop by the Spec's to say hello, just got transferred/promoted to the store on 61st, so if your shopping or just swinging through, ask for David. Haven't posted in a while because work has been crazy and what not.
Hope all you guys have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend and remember what the day is really all about and maybe try to sneak in some fishing if you can.
