RIP Henry Huie (Sam's Deli Diner owner)

I am just getting around to reading last weeks Katy newspaper when I see that the owner of Sam's Deli Diner, Mr. Henry, has passed away at such a young age. Some of you know the original restaurant is located in Memorial where my wife grew up. She knew him many years before I did, but he was always good for a good, long conversation every time we saw him. I just hope that he didn't over do it as he was always at the restaurant working.

After a quick seach, apparently he died of a heart attack at work:

Henry Huie, who opened Sam's Deli Diner with his brother Sam in 1975, passed away last Friday, March 28 after suffering a heart attack. He was 57 years old. According to accounts, Huie died doing what he loved: working the grill at the West Houston burger institution .

Fans of Sam's Deli Diner, which began its life in a small strip center on Old Katy Road, flooded the restaurant's Facebook page with condolences for the Huie family this week. Sam's was well-known in the West Houston community for its support of local high schools in Spring Branch and Katy ISDs, decorating both locations with pennants and other sports paraphernalia from the schools. Conversely, both locations were popular post-game and after-school destinations for students and parents alike.
