32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.
Thought I would share this scripture and brief synopsis of the sermon along with it: Everything we have/own is a gift from God. If you cannot freely give away any of your possessions, you don't possess it, it possesses you.
This was a really challenging sermon for me to hear and I have prayed that God leads my heart in way that I understand and live in way that shows this. I also prayed that one day we live in a world that is so enthralled by Jesus Christ, that we mimic the community described in verses 32-37.
During this Easter time (and all times for that matter), I try to remind myself that Jesus gave us the only gift we NEED by living a perfect life and dying on the cross for all of us. As the song says, Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
First time posting on this forum, but been reading for a while. Hope this challenges you as it did me.
God bless,
