I have bamboo poles that make awesome live bait ( sabaki rig) or outrigger poles. I grow and cure them my self and I have them from 1 1/15" in diameter up to 28' feet in length. The great thing about these poles is that you can use them to catch your live bait on the way out and then use them for outriggers for trolling. For the smaller boats they can be used for multiple things and are very lite and biodegradable, which means you don't have them in your way back if you don't want. I'm pretty sure some type of sea life or tired old sea bird would appreciate the temporary earth/userfriendly structure.
