I am first of all not posting this to send anyone our way to purchase stuff, but more to help out those that like most of us find a "deal" and decide to buy so I want to do some quick pointers to protect the interest of our friends on 2 cool. Just like anyone else, I love a good deal, but this is a simple friendly reminder on things we have learned that may help one of our friends on 2 cool.
Lately we have seen a rash of products with problems that customers are calling us to try and help out. These products are coming from internet electronic shops, and even though there are some great deals, one in particular sells product pretty cheap. If you purchase product from one of these non sanctioned internet stores and something goes wrong, well you are on your own. We have had a rash of JL and Rockford audio equipment that customers have called us on purchased on line, and when we try to help the door gets shut by the manufactures we represent pretty quickly. Amazingly enough, some of these items are legit but sold in black markets, and most are refurbished, and amazingly enough some are fake. The last 8 calls in the last two months have all been product purchased from this same on line retailer, and now the customers that bought it, that share the waters we run, are finding out that they will have no support, no warranty and that the gamble they took on pricing at times does not pay off. Simple on this one , be careful what you buy, from whom, and if the price is to good to believe, well sometimes there is a reason. Just ask questions, as sometimes you can score great product at great prices, and sometimes you may score a copy, fake, refurb material, etc that is non warrantied if you ever have a problem.
Now for the big one, make sure with electronics, especially GPS's and such, that you have serial numbers on the unit ( hard evidence ), and do yourself a favor and call the manufacture with the serial number BEFORE you purchase and get the units history. Make sure the serial numbers are in the correct spot, and on the unit. There is one particular person that sells electronics, and not only have I witnessed and have taken two huge losses because serial numbers are missing in the units if and when they fail, but have talked to multiple people that have been screwed in the same ways by the same person. I never thought to check for a serial number, and believe me when I say not one manufacture will even take a look at a unit without the serial number or with a tampered serial number, and neither should you!
