Blue marlin sighting!

Hello all,

I work on a DP drillship out here in the GOM and was wondering if this time of year is frequent for Blue Marlin to actively feed on the surface? I have seen the same blue marlin (I think) actively feed on the surface off our bow nearly every day since December 1st (first day I saw her). Judging her size and considering the depth perception of being nearly 100' above the water, from her dorsal fin to tail is roughly 6' making total length around 10'? She is rather big, and she is very fat considering ive seen her airborne 3-4 times on different occasions in the past week 'greyhounding' BFT.

The reason why I ask is we have been on this location since late July and I have seen more marlin activity in the past 9 days then the past 4 (off and on) months of being on board. Majority of the action is YFT from 40-120 lbs which is pretty common. I am just curious if this marlin activity is normal for colder weather and water temps?

I try to get pictures on my iphone but they do not turn out very well.
