Fishing Tactics When On Undersized Fish

Hi guys. I am new to fishing saltwater from a boat. A few weeks ago I took a coworker down to Seadrift for a weekend fishing trip. Ended up having good weather on that Sunday so we fished from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. We went up the barge channel and fished a shallow flat adjacent to the channel. Had the best luck fishing the from the flat(2') to the first drop(6'). Using fresh dead shrimp we had hot action from the start. We ended up landing 63 fish with only 8 keepers. We went through 4 lbs of shrimp that day. We caught the full range of fish....reds, trout, black drum, and flounder.

My question is, what should you do when you are on undersized fish? Grind it out like we did, move a little farther off the edge, or find a new spot.

Tidbit, that same weekend we fished the pier there in Seadrift in the evening under the lights as a storm was heading in. We landed a couple dozen undersized trout and a flounder all just barely undersized. Good time none the less.

Thanks for the help.

Rob
