Deer feeder problem..

Will having too much loose sand under the feeder cause the deer to not stay as long and not come to the feeder as often? I noticed yesterday that after the feeder went off almost all the corn was buried in the sand and not much on top.. Also almost all the deer have stopped coming when there are usually 15+ every time it goes off..
