With this purse snatching talk going on, it got me thinking a little. My wife usually uses the kid's seat belt on grocery carts to more or less strap her purse into the cart. I know the little belt would come loose if you yanked on it hard, but it might slow down a thief who was in a hurry and tried to just "one arm grab" and run.
Otherwise, i was thinking it might be handy to use a cheapo combination lock, or even a regular lock/key to hold the purse down to the cart. Just pass the lock through the purse straps and attach to the cart frame.
It obviously isn't going to stop someone that is willing to stand there and yank like hell on the purse, but most thieves are looking for an "easy meal". They don't want to work at it. If it takes effort, or if there is a deterrent to slow them down, they are likely to pass on it, and go on to the next one.
