Fish ID

Was fishing San Luis pass on the bay side Tuesday around noon near a drop off where the water goes from 2-3ft deep then slants down to over head high water. Guy next to me hooked up on his first cast with a big sting ray, on soft plastic!! That never happens. Anyways we were about 35yds from each other and BOOM!! To my right is the BIGGEST explosion I have ever seen in the ocean. And only in 3 ft of water right off of a circular grass bed. I stand there all the time. I saw no fin after the swirl and it was much too small to be a redfish, trout, even a jack crevalle woud suprise me to make that much noise. The swirl and explosion was no joke the size of a 2 door car and loud as one getting dropped in the water too. The day was interesting I saw a shark across the channel on the flats just ripping thru the grass like a huge snake, and even saw a sea turtle in the flats. Literally all types of creatures out and about on this day. I just can't figure out what it was. If it was a big shark how could I not see the tail or fin?? It was too shallow. Could it have been a giant tarpon? Me and the guy next to me were baffled he saw after the boil had settled, while I heard it and looked over and saw water getting pushed around big time but did not see any colors form or size. Needless to say I didn't feel safe I couldn't get shallow enough to calm my nerve after I saw it. Anyone had any similar circumstances?
