Well I read a thread by Chickenboy the other day that said he was just now seeing June like patterns up his way. So I thought I would take a chance and did a predawn run to a favorite June area that had always.......until this year .....been bullitproof for me on trout with top-waters. Some bait around and flat calm winds so started a wade before light and it was slow going until the sun was just rising then it was steady action for close to an hour. I was wading on hard bottom in grass about wast deep and throwing out to deeper water. Working a pink and chrome super spook jr was by far the most productive with hits and blows on every cast. Caught a fair number of various sizes from 13-14 to 23 or better. Kept my usual three for dinner and let the rest go. The bite died like a switch had been turned off and it was done. I was back at the ramp by about 9am.
Not saying copano is turning on but it has been so slow for trout in there since November and I have been so negative on the bay that a good report was due.
Also on a side note there is a fairly large amount of brown tide forming in the middle of the bay now. I thought red tide at first but ran into a TPW ranger at the ramp and he said they are watching it and based on water sample so far no red tide is evident.
