AR 15 lower for a pistol

I bought a stripped lower today and the gun shop put it as a long gun. Would it matter if I was to use it as a pistol ? I told them I was wanting to put it as a pistol, but they said the lower was not marked specifically for a pistol. All it says is multi-cal with the serial number.
