Well the other day I noticed one of the three toilets was leaking and overflowing into the dip tube. So I knew this was going to another fun plumbing episode. They sell the gasket for $3.20 but I thought I would try the easy way of buying the whole enchilada and then simple shutting off the water, remove the old one and slip on the new one. I did save some money by buying the contractor pack of three as it is like paying for 2.5 and getting three and it is always good to have spares.
I guess it has been awhile since I worked on plumbing as I open the bathroom faucet and the water still came out. My mistake was not moving the lever to the cold water position to relieve the cold water pressure.
Here's where the fun begins. I pull on the float mechanism and the tube snaps so I end up have to replace the whole thing. Just as well since the plastic was probably brittle. It seems like the plastic stuff just doesn't last like the original metal float. the guaranty is only 5 years. Glad I didn't buy a house with 4.5 toilets.
The good news is I tested the new swing valve and it holds so I no longer have to shut the water off at the meter. :D. I think I have had enough plumbing for the day.
