Sporting breeds of dogs are a very special group of animals. As we know, there are genetic health issues in all of the magnificent breeds that make our hunting endeavors enjoyable. Please do your research before breeding and or purchasing a pup.
In the case of Labrador Retrievers, issues like hip displasia, elbows, multiple eye issues, CNM (central neuromuscular myopathy), and EIC (excercise induced collapse). Please breed or buy pups that are produced by a sire/dam that have had all of their health clearances. Saving money on a pup or breeding by avoiding health clearances may cost you money/or heartache in the long run.
If you doubt, google CNM/or EIC and watch videos of affected puppies. You'd never buy a backyard bred pup again for fear of potential disaster. Just because the sire/or dam of a pup or litter seem healthy, it doesn't mean that both aren't carrying a gene that put together could be deadly to a pup.
BUY CLEAR and/or CARRIER ONLY!!! Know the breeding and health of those cute little pups that are so irresistable. Be aware of the "good deal" pups found on the internet. Be willing to play a roll in keeping up the health standards of our wonderful sporting breeds.
