I took this weekend off from fishing trying to recharge my battery by sleeping in late. It was tough. Saturday I was fine. I went over to Bass Pro Shops and picked up some lures and a new Penn Fierce reel and I was FINE. Today I woke up at 4:45AM and had to talk myself down. I looked myself in the mirror and said "Bankin' On It"...(yes I refer to myself only by my 2cooler handle on the weekends at that hour)...anyway, I said "Bankin' On It...dude you have to get your rest. The big game is coming up and you need to be fresh and ready. Your opponents are preparing. Suspending, running practice drills on bait balls, contemplating...Go back to sleep." So I did.
Once I woke up, I spent today setting up a couple of poles with weights and 3/0 hooks, setting up a couple of poles with slip bobbers and 3/0 hooks, setting up 1 pole with 8lb test, a slip bobber and a 1/16oz jig head and setting up a couple of poles with WBF slabs. I also took my baitcaster reel apart because it was real stiff, lubed it up and proudly put it all back together. It now works backwards by unwinding line instead of the traditional reeling action. Awesome. Oh, and I only broke 1 pole in the process. How the....?? Don't ask.
I finished out the afternoon practice pitching my cast net and picking pine needles out of it. I almost caught a cat. They're fast.
What am I getting ready for? No, not an in-home catalog sales party (although i can see why some would jump to that conclusion). Catfish, crappie and white bass!
WHERE. ARE. THE. SHAD? I'm ready for a bulkhead bite sunrise followed by a drifting mid-morning topped off with a slab jigging afternoon of fishing madness on the lake!
SO...anyone see shad hitting the bulkheads yet? I checked the reports from the past couple of years. Seems to be that time but we had such a harsh winter this year I wonder how this will affect the shad spawn? Will it be late?
When are all the river white bass due back to the lake? Mid April? I've got 2 coolers fellow 2coolers. One for catfish and one for white bass and crappie.
So I bear my burden and confess all to the only group who can relate to my March Madness. Who else would understand? My yard guy didn't. Neither did my neighbors (it was their cat though so...). The cashier at the grocery store just looked at me. My dog gets it but he can't answer any of my questions. He hears "fishing" and bolts for the door ready to get in the truck. I need meaningful interaction. Just tell me they will be there next weekend. Someone. Anyone.
I got it bad man. :p
