12 ga. dove load preference

I'm not familar with 12 ga. shooting. I've shot a 20 for 50 years of very limited hunting experience. My SIL wants a 12 for Fathers day, and is looking to me for advise. What shot size and load is most prefered for doves. Thanks for any help.
